On June 17, 2026, the Rotary Club of Taipei Blaze held the donation ceremony for the “Taipei Women’s Breast Cancer Screening and Treatment Project” at the Women and Children’s Branch of Taipei City Hospital. Together with the medical team and Rotary partners, the club marked an important milestone in advancing a service project that connects the spirit of the Rotary Global Grant with a real local healthcare need.

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers among women in Taiwan. Early detection and timely diagnosis are critical to improving treatment outcomes. The Women and Children’s Branch of Taipei City Hospital has long served women’s health needs and provides a large volume of mammography screening each year. However, whether patients can receive a breast ultrasound on the same day after mammography—and then move efficiently into diagnosis and treatment—has often been limited by equipment capacity. For low-income women, people with disabilities, family caregivers, or working women who find it difficult to take leave, one additional hospital visit can become the point where the screening process is interrupted.

Through a Rotary Global Grant, this project donates three GE Voluson breast ultrasound probes to be used with the hospital’s existing machines and medical team. The goal is to expand the hospital’s breast ultrasound capacity and make a one-stop process—mammography followed by same-day breast ultrasound—more achievable. The project will also support a stronger referral pathway after abnormal screening results, helping women enter breast surgery consultation and follow-up diagnosis more quickly, while reducing loss to follow-up caused by waiting, referrals, or repeated visits.

At the donation ceremony, CP Cilin, Charter President of the Rotary Club of Taipei Blaze, represented the club members and Rotary partners who supported the project. She expressed appreciation to the Women and Children’s Branch medical team for its long-term commitment to women’s health, and thanked all Rotary clubs and members who helped make this Global Grant project possible. Rotary’s strength comes from bringing together professional expertise, resources, and action. When medical professionalism and community service work together, they can bring concrete support to more families.

This service project is more than a one-time equipment donation. It leaves long-term medical capacity in place at the hospital. After the probes are delivered, the hospital will be responsible for operation, maintenance, and continued patient care coordination, allowing screening, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up to continue within the same hospital system. Rotary is helping bridge a critical gap in the healthcare process; the beneficiaries are the women and families who need to be reached earlier and supported more effectively.

The Rotary Club of Taipei Blaze will continue working toward the goal of “Service Above Self” by connecting medical expertise, community needs, and Rotary partnerships to advance sustainable community health projects. Through the Global Grant platform, Taipei Blaze will keep building connections with Rotary partners in Taiwan and abroad, ensuring that service goes beyond the moment of donation and continues to support the community and protect women’s health over the long term.
